Many have heard about him, some even saw video showcase, but... why is everyone talking about him? Vayne Solidor is a politician who killed and manipulated people in order to achieve his goal, becoming the Dynasty King (no, there is not a throne forged with swords. You know, he needs them to fight). Spoiler: He dies He dies trying to turn final fantasy in Gundam. What's his role? He is a dps with a bit of support, but his real value is in his new mechanic: he can ignore turn count, this allows higher score for missions. Other than that he can delay but, unlike quistis or Setzer, his delay is due to his ability to unbreak target before hitting it and breaking it again. this means he is able to break enemy, unbreak it and break it again for 2 turns delay. With his EX recharging one use on both abilities he is able to last long in fights. Weapon: Greatsword Crystal: Blue Abilities (with everything equipped) - Caution: this is going to be long- - Mach Wave: 3NE ST melee hits + Hp, 120% Overflow (300% multiplier). Grants self 2 stack of "Conqueror Power" framed buff for 2turns (max 3 stacks). Each stacks reduce enemies' attack by 5% (max15%). When conqueror Power reaches 3 stacks, changes to Mach Wave+ Conqueror Power is a buff, so enemies immune to atk debuff will still get hit by that! Max uses: 9 - Force of Will: 2NE ST melee hits + Hp, unbreak enemy then 4NE ST melee hits + Hp (120%+240%, total 360% multiplier) If enemy is broken twice with this attack, break bonus is still gained only once. Grants to self 1 stack of "Conqueror Power" (max 3) for 2 turns, to self "Consul Wisdom" framed buff for 10 turns. "Consul Wisdom" increase party's attack by 25% and mbrv by 50% then further increase own atk and Mbrv by 20% (total to Vayne: 45%Atk, 70%Mbrv) Max Uses: 5 - Tree of Sephira (EX): 4NE magic AoE hits + Evenly Hp, 150% Overflow (320% multiplier). Damage against ST is multiplied by 1,6 Grants 3 stacks of "Conqueror Power" for 2 turns [requires LB2], restore 1 use on both Mach Wave and Force of Will. Recharge: Slow LB1: Increase brv damage by 10% LB2: -grants 3 stacks Conqueror Power for 2 turns- LB3: Increase recast spd by 20% - While "Consul Wisdom" is active, brv and hp changes: Kick (brv+): 2NE ST melee hits, grant 1 stack of "Conqueror Power" (230% multiplier) Pummel (hp+): 2NE ST melee hits + Hp, grant user 1 stack of "Conqueror Power" (150% multiplier) - While "Conqueror Power" is at 3 stacks, all abilities change to + version of themselves (Mach Wave+, Force of Will+, Tree of Sephira+, Kick+, Pummel+), they all behave just like their normal version with these changes: - They no longer grant "Conqueror Power" stacks - They have no action delay and ignore turn count (Buff/Debuff duration, Summon and friend count are still used) Passive Abilities: You get passives increasing crystal level. Clv 5 and 25 increase brv damage of Mach wave and force of will (and + version) by 10%, while clv 35 and 45 increase uses of mach wave and force of will by 1. 10 Increase critical hit damage by 10% 15 Increase atk while buffed by 10% 30 Increase break bonus granted by breaking an enemy by 20% 40 Increase Mbrv for 1 turn after breaking an enemy by 10% 50 Increase atk/Mbrv while buffed by 10% (max 25% with passives) 54 Increase atk by 50% and spd (M) while buffed 58 Increase Mbrv by 40% and spd (M) while buffed Total: Atk: 70% - Max 85% (with 3 Imperial consul** equipped) Mbrv: 50% (+10% after breaking an enemy) - Max 65% (+10% for 1 turn after breaking an enemy) Spd: M+M Damage +10% when critical Conditional on atk are easy (being buffed), unfortunately while Vayne is able to break enemy on demand with Force of Will, 1 turn is quite a low duration. Best Artifacts: Imperial Consul**: atk/Mbrv increase both on same ability is good Atk+108: Overcoming enemy defense is needed to deal higher damage for an easier break (probably double with force of will) Mbrv+330: Vayne is a dps, this helps dealing higher hp damage Vayne gets close to no benefit other passives Summon Boards: Ifrit: Attack up, Base&Attack up, Critical Power Up: Vayne has no element, so best passives are the ones that boost his atk and critical damage (All damage against broken target is critical) Shiva: Evasion, Brave&Guard Up, Critical Power Up: Not only you don't want to get under 80% hp, but Shiva's blessing are not good. Until we get Evasion rework that passive is a double edged sword (and Vayne knows well swords) How does Evasion work right now? If an enemy hits party with AoE brv + hp attack damage is equally divided among them. When a character evade, damage is divided among hit target. This means that if 2 characters evade the last one get the whole hp damage. After rework it still takes divided damage. Thoughts about Characer: Vayne has been hyped for a long time, and it has the right! Use recovery is kinda rare (only Y'shtola and Decil have them and no one use them) and it allows him to recover a move that unbreak target, granting him virtually infinite delay for a long fight. Everything has a downside: Vayne has only two buffs from his whole kit, one of them acting more like a debuff (Conqueror Power) who can't even be used at its fullest strenght because you're burning its duration with free turns. Free turns. I suppose you all experienced Zidane, Lightning or Jecht in co-op or your own, fast characters burn buff turns very fast so, expecially if you're using a support, you must check turns to not running out when you most need them. Another downside that should be noted is that Force of Will and pummel have no overflow, so don't battery him too much or he will lose that brv (even if Force of WIll double hp attack can be see as an almost overflow). That said, pros are obviously higher than cons, everyone should pull for Vayne just like Lenna and Rinoa. Who to team him with? Good question. Vayne has only two buffs so it would be a good idea to team him with someone who could grant him higher atk and Mbrv. The best one is Serah who grants both active and passive buffs (if you farmed her artifacts. Good news, they share the same co-op to drop eidoja)... moreover she can further reduce enemies'atk! Unfortunately, vayne will burn those buffs fast and, unless you got lucky with farm, you should be careful with uses in cosmos. Another good character those two with is Quistis. If there is only one boss the two of them will delay him to oblivion and beyond. Another good third member can be Pecil. He can self buff to enjoy Serah's help and give some buffs to party with healing as well. Zack can be a good partner as well. His aura will help Vayne while protecting him from attacks. If you're looking at spamming Pummel (hp+) a good character to team him with can be Lenna, her regen will help him start turns with some brv to hit harder. With Lenna, after rework, WoL will be a good option as well. Unfortunately Lenna doesn't team well with Serah as her ibrv debuff will lower poison tix damage by a lot (they're both based on enemies' ibrv) For other dps: if you have Lenna, Rinoa can be a good option, she gives passive buffs and hit harder; another good option is Sephiroth, he hits hard and reduce enemies' speed with his framed buff and his ex leaves enemies with 0 brv! Vayne will for sure enjoy a double break! Vayne doesn't team well with Jecht as he will have a hard time breaking the enemy to get more turns, nor with Galuf or Celes whom niche is being hit by enemy to deal higher damage or get a stronger buff and Vayne's purpose is letting enemy act the less he can. If there is more than one enemy you can try with Jecht if you manage the break but I would still suggest using one of the above characters. How Should I use Vayne? Vayne gives his best against a single enemy. In a co-op against single enemy you can delay it like 3 Quistis. You should begin with Force of Will, this will grant you Consul Wisdom to increase your and your allies' stats while activating all your passives and delaying enemy turn, then you can use Mach Wave to max your Conqueror Power and act freely. Use whatever you want according to event difficulty, in cosmos you may still want to save abilities for bosses, even if you can recharge, so go with pummels. One thing to not do (unless you're in an easy event) is to use Tree of Sephira+. It gives nothing to you while using it when you don't have a maxed conqueror power will grant you 3 stacks, 2 more free turns!
