He's the leading man of Final Fantasy XII (or so he says... a lot, apparently), here's one for Balthier!

    BALTHIER REVIEW BY BERSERKOLOGIST
    [IMG]

    ROLE: ATTACKER/SPECIALIST
    WEAPON TYPE: [IMG]
    CRYSTAL TYPE: [IMG]

    ATTRIBUTESMAX STATS
    HP:3859
    Initial Brave:785
    Max Brave:1437
    ATK:480
    DEF:424

    ABILITIES:
    Snatch Shot (5 USES)

Ranged BRV attack. Occasionally steals a random enemy buff.

    Great Aim (3 USES)
BRV x1.3+HP attack. Occasionally steals a random enemy buff.

    PROS:
Balthier is a bit of a niche hero like Yuffie. However, where Yuffie's usefulness is completely circumstantial and tethered to her ability count, Balthier's a bit more versatile. Balthier's trick is that he can dispel buffs and then whatever buff was dispelled he applies it to himself (stealing it). It's pretty neat! Think about fights like the Chimera in the level 60 Co-op; imagine getting a 15 turn (good) ATK buff. Pretty awesome!

His Snatch Shot actually does decent BRV damage. It's not the hardest hitting skill, but with the right passives and gear, it can compete with the best hitters. He gets 5 inherent charges too!

Great Aim is similar to Shadow's Shadow Stealth in that he raises his own BRV 30% before firing an HP attack. It's a great ability for closing the gap on HP damage potential.

He does respectable damage and he can be a real pest to any foes that have a tendency to self-buff--in some cases, taking the enemy's buff can turn him into a real wrecking ball. His base stats are middling (his speed is definitely above average); they're enough to keep him in the fight and for him to be reasonably useful even if his skills are exhausted.

    CONS:
If you're not up against enemies that self-buff, it's kind of hard to justify taking Balthier (unless he's just so heavily invested in that he's your best damage dealer; which I guess could happen); and that's only because there are plenty of other heroes that hit harder than he does.

Without his 5* weapon, the chance for him to steal buffs is at times unreliable (even with his weapon, sometimes you just get unlucky). It works often enough, but if it's absolutely critical that buffs are dispelled, you may not want to rely on him solely.

Other than that, that's really it. He's a specific tool in the toolbox. Need a screwdriver? Take him! Does the job call for a hammer? Don't take him!

    COMBO POTENTIAL:
I think pairing Balthier with debuffers (Laguna and Vanille) is especially effective. Since he serves a unique function, having hard hitters (ie. Squall) with him can help to bridge the damage gap that may be produced if his abilities are tapped out. Terra makes for a good companion in particular since she hits ludicrously hard and she has a chance to debuff with her chants.

He is really good for this 70 Co-op.
But.... will he shine again after this event?

Pretty much anytime you're up against an enemy that buffs a lot or very well :-p

Great game, Balthier and Fran are the best Characters in the game.. you need to play it.

As for Balthier, I've done a couple of game with him in the team.. and now I want his gear!
It really depends on stealing buff from the boss.. but when you steal it, it's almost a certain win.. a really funny character

The Leading Man! He calls himself that, and the game kinda takes him seriously. He's pretty much the only character to receive decent character development during the story. XD Also, no matter how much Square tries to tell you that Vaan is the main character of XII, Balthier is actually the protagonist of the game.
